Owning and caring for a horse, pony or donkey is a big commitment. For responsible owners, the question of what would happen to your beloved equine companion in the event they outlive you can be a worrying one. Family members may not have the same knowledge or resources to step in and care for a horse, especially in the event of unexpected bereavement.
You can safeguard your horses future by leaving your horse to HorseWorld in your will. In this way, your horse will be assured a home for life.
We hope this scheme will help support your high standards of equine welfare, and that owners who use this scheme will also consider a financial gift in their will to HorseWorld.
How it works
- Complete the form below for a call back from Jenny to discuss the scheme.
- Following your conversation, you will be sent an application form to complete and return for each horse you wish to register.
- We will review your application, and if we believe it in the best interests of your horse to come into HorseWorld's care in the event they outlive you, we will offer them a place.
- Keep us updated should your horses circumstances - such as where they are kept - or their needs change.

Frequently asked questions about leaving your horse in your will
-
Can I include more than one horse to you in my will?
Yes, the maximum horses we will typically take is three. This is in line with the number we take for emergency rescues and helps us manage our herd numbers. We may agree to take more but on a case-by-case basis, and could mean we need to do a staggered entry for your horses.
-
Will my horse live at HorseWorld for the rest of its life?
Whilst HorseWorld will always retain ownership of your horse once they pass to us, depending on their health and behavioural needs we will look to place them in loving private homes through our rehoming scheme. Our Equine Welfare team approve all homes, and would visit your horse twice a year. Alternatively, your horse may be put to work on our Discovery Programme, providing equine therapy to disadvantaged children and young people.
-
Will my horses stay together?
Your horses may not stay together depending on our herd numbers and the needs and requirements of all our horses. We will always bare in mind existing bonds, but do find horses quickly build new relationships and find new friends.
-
Can my family and friends visit my horse?
Whilst we will always answer any enquiries respectfully, once your horse is under HorseWorld's care family members will not be able to visit the horse or receive regular updates.
-
How would my horse get to HorseWorld?
It is important that as well as leaving your horse to HorseWorld in your will, you arrange for them to be transported to HorseWorld in the event that you pass away. You should nominate a 'horse guardian' who could care for your horse in the short term as well as coordinate transport. This could be your executor, or another trusted person. You can include these details in a 'letter of wishes' that you file with your will.
