Meet Lolly

Lolly is the biggest resident at HorseWorld, she stands at around 18.3hh and is too tall for the measuring stick!

She arrived in 2017 as part of a large multi-charity rescue involving 27 Shire horses that had been badly neglected and abandoned. Out of the three mares that we took in, we named the youngest one, Lolly. She was severely underweight, suffering from liver fluke and had dental problems. We also suspected she might have a neurological condition as she was uncoordinated and showing weakness in her hind end.

Now that Lolly is fully grown and we have had a vet that specialises in neurological assessments attend the yard, we’ve been able to determine that her ongoing weakness is not caused by neurological origins, and is more likely to be from trauma to her pelvic area. This means that the grooms can start introducing her to some in-hand physical rehabilitation to help her develop and tone muscles in her hindquarters. However, because of her complex needs and breed, she will spend the rest of her life in the HorseWorld herd where she can get the expert care that she needs.
